One of the things to keep us motivated at Make Mine Pink, is Show and Tell Monday. We show what we have been working on during the previous week. This week, I am so very practical. I made something for me! My ironing board cover was disreputable, my ironing board is very old, but I love it. It's the perfect height for me, nice big pressing surface-but it's an off size and the commercially made covers don't fit properly, too small. I had read about making your own covers awhile back on line (wish I could remember where)so decided to tackle it. Flipped the ironing board upside down to trace the shape. I added 3 inches to accomodate the edges and the batting. I cut out 7 layers of cotton and wool batting the exact size of the board and stitched the edges together to prevent shifting. Then the cover was cut out to the larger size. I made self fabric bias tape, applied it to the edge of the cover, inserted the cording and ta da---the most beautiful ironing board cover ever!!! (It doesn't take a lot to keep me happy) Looking at this gorgeous pink chintz fabric with huge blowsy peonies makes me smile.
On the board is a tote I have started.
Have a wonderful week, stop back soon.

What a beautiful cover~ might as well enjoy your ironing~S
Pat, your ironing board cover is just beautiful. Like you, I have a very old, heavy duty ironing board that I just love. It's so sturdy! I have entertained the idea of making my own cover and I also saw a tutorial for using the layes of cotton and wool. Seems there's an art to making it with the right materials to help make sure the steam is pulled down properly through the item you are ironing!
Beautiful job!
Beautiful ironing board cover. I really like the print. Thanks for sharing!

Now that is an ironing board and cover!!! I just replaced my old beat up cover too....but I didn't do all that work like you did. Consequently, my cover is pretty.........yours is beeeeautiful.
Hi Pat,
You're so cute. I guess I never thought of covering an ironing board. And what a great idea! I have one of those that you can tuck away under your bed. It looks so pretty! You are very creative. Can't wait to come back again to see what goodies you come up with for Show and Tell. ;-)

I love that ironing board cover. If you have to iron, then I think the ironing borad need to be beautiful.
Now isn't that just the smartest thing ever. You should sell those on line. I'd stand in line to buy one. My cover is the pits. ~ Lynn

My ironing board cover is from the 70s. U-G-L-Y. But I am sentimental about it. It was my mom's.
When the final thread shreds away, I'll try and follow your directions to make a new one.
Great idea! I've done the tracing thing for other projects, but I never thought about the ironing board. I try to never think about the ironing board. :)
Hugs!
Patricia...I love your ironing board cover! I'm so impressed with how you made your cover! I wish I would have taken the time to make a cover the same way. Instead, I just stapled mine underneath! lol.. I'm sooo lazy!
xoxo Pink Hugs to you~ xoxo

Nice cover that almost makes ironing fun!
Hi Patricia,
Lovely ironing board. I just bought a new cover for mine last month. The tape holding it on was getting a bit RIDICULOUS.
I can't wait to see how your new tote comes out.

I cannot believe you made an ironing board cover and thought to sew through the layers to prevent shifting. You are a genius! And so pretty too! Thanks for sharing.
I just added you to my blog friends!
