I'm Back!

After a month long absence due to a family emergency, I am finally back! Have missed all my computer friends. Have a whole lot of catching up to do, that's for sure. I sincerely hope that the crises are behind me now and life will take on a more normal pace.
How did everybody make out with the big blizzard of 2010 up here in the Northeast? We lost power for a few days, so a forced R & R break was enjoyed. We haven't had a storm like this is many years, felt like a kid with a snow day. Here's a photo of my back deck and Chloe (my head seamstress) to show what we dealt with.

It is just beautiful though and the full moon on the snow last night was awesome. Has anyone ever enjoyed Cracked Sugar? It's a fun thing to do when you have a big snow. Everyone in the house puts out a bowl to collect some fresh snow. Meanwhile, take some maple syrup (has to be the real deal) and simmer for a while on the stove top, minimum of 15-20 minutes. Bring in your bowl of snow and drizzle the hot syrup over the snow. The maple syrup hardens up and you have instant maple candy, yumm! Little ones love the magic of watching the syrup harden up instantly and particularly eating it! Okay, Here I was, all by myself in the house, and I have to admit that I couldn't resist and did it for myself this snow storm. It was fun! Try it the next time we have a good snow fall.
Have a wonderful week all,
Pat

Pat,

Wow, that was some snow fall! We just don't get that kind of snow. But the Cracked Sugar sounds delish!

Pat I am so happy you are back with us I have missed you dearly!
I love the picture of the snow. We did not get any snow in the Puget Sound area this year very sad for us.
Your cracked sugar sounds yummy!
Out here in the Pacific NW we make snow ice cream, we go out with our bowls and gather the fresh snow (of cource we have to make sure there is no yellow color on it) the we add a little cream and vanilla fresh or bottled, stir and we have our ice cream. Yummy!

Hi Pat,
Have missed you so much. Was so happy to see a blog post. Hope and pray all is well. Cracked sugar sounds good, but I have been off sugar since august, plus we never get snow here in the desert valley, lol.
Blessings,

What pictures! so glad you are now settling down again and things are getting better.

Cracked sugar sounds fun, have done spun sugar before to top cakes but when it snows again (hope not) will give it a go.

Hugs x

Pat

Have never tried making the maple candy but have had my fair share of snow cream. Although I would love to be able to try it, I don't want any more snow this year! I'll wait until next season. :)

Hi pat,

Thanks for sharing. I didn't think snow out there can be edible just like that! It's quite unbelievable.

I hope you have a great week!

Pat I hope you are able to get some time for yourself and to rest up.
You've been in my thoughts and prayers.
We actually had some snow flakes here in the deep South ...but fortunately it did not stick around, it knew it had to fly up Nawth. LOL

Yep, this winter has been a wing-dinger! But, I especially love winter and snow. I must have been an Eskimo in my previous life! Hugs, Tedi

Hi Pat,

Thank you for following my blog. I'll put your name on the list for the blue chair lol.

I see you have a lot snow. Where are you located? We've had our share too here in NE Ohio.

Do hope that you have your family crisis under control.

Have a good day,
